Recording a Route

Route Recording captures your live GPS position as you walk, drive, or move — automatically building a route that traces exactly where you've been. When you're done, save it to the group's shared map.

Start recording

  1. Tap the Command Grid button on the map
  2. Tap Record Route
  3. An orange "RECORDING ROUTE" bar appears at the top of the screen, with a live stats panel below it showing distance, duration, and point count

Move around. The app draws your path on the map in real time as you go.

During recording

  • You can use the rest of the app normally while recording — chat, view pins, check locations
  • The recording continues if you switch between tabs within the app
  • Your path updates live on your own map as you move (other members don't see it until you save)
Background recording is not supported

If you leave the app or your screen locks, location tracking stops. Keep the Flaresat app open and your screen on for the duration of your recording. You may want to disable auto-lock in your device settings for long sessions.

Stop and save

The recording controls at the top of the screen give you:

  • Pause / Resume — temporarily pause tracking without ending the session
  • Save & Stop — end the recording and save the route to the group map (requires at least 2 GPS points)
  • Cancel (X) — discard the recording without saving

When you save, give the route a label and it's shared with your group immediately.

Tips

  • For the best GPS accuracy, make sure Location Services is enabled for Flaresat in your device settings
  • On web/PWA, GPS accuracy depends on your browser and whether the device has a GPS chip

After saving

The saved route behaves like any other route on the map — teammates can tap it to view details, and any member can edit or delete it. See Editing & Deleting Items.
