Recording a Route
Route Recording captures your live GPS position as you walk, drive, or move — automatically building a route that traces exactly where you've been. When you're done, save it to the group's shared map.
Start recording
- Tap the Command Grid button on the map
- Tap Record Route
- A recording indicator appears at the bottom of the screen — Flaresat is now tracking your GPS
Move around. The app draws your path on the map in real time as you go.
Stop and save
- When you're done, tap Stop in the recording controls
- Choose what to do with the track:
- Save — give it a label and add it to the group's map
- Discard — throw it away without saving
If you save, the route is shared with your group immediately.
During recording
- You can use the rest of the app normally while recording — chat, view pins, check locations
- The recording continues even if you switch between tabs
- Your path updates live on your own map as you move (other members don't see it until you save)
Tips
- Keep your device's screen from locking if you're doing a long recording — iOS and Android can suspend location services in deep sleep on some devices
- For the best GPS accuracy, make sure Location Services is set to Always for Flaresat in your device settings
- On web/PWA, GPS accuracy depends on your browser and whether the device has a GPS chip
After saving
The saved route behaves like any other route on the map — teammates can tap it to view details, and admins can edit or delete it. See Editing & Deleting Items.
