Compass & Heading

Flaresat includes two tools that help you understand your orientation and the orientation of your teammates in real time.

Live Compass HUD

A compass indicator appears in the map header. It reads your device's magnetometer and updates in real time.

Two display modes — tap the compass to switch:

ModeWhat it shows
Compass roseNorth indicator rotates as you turn — always points to true north
Bearing modeShows your current heading as a degree and cardinal direction (e.g. 045° NE)

Your preferred mode is saved between sessions.

Direction Indicator

A small triangle appears above your avatar on the map and rotates as you move, showing which way you are currently facing.

All members of the group can see each other's direction indicators in real time — not just where someone is, but which way they are heading.

Tips

  • Direction indicators are especially useful for search-and-rescue, convoy coordination, and events where knowing orientation matters.
  • The compass HUD reads from your device's physical magnetometer. If your device does not have one, the indicator will not appear.
  • Metal objects and magnetic interference can affect compass accuracy — re-calibrate your device if readings seem off.
