Compass & Heading

Flaresat includes a compass HUD and a personal heading indicator to help you understand your own orientation on the map.

Live Compass HUD

A compass indicator appears in the map header. It reads your device's magnetometer and updates in real time.

Two display modes, tap the compass to switch:

ModeWhat it shows
Compass roseNorth indicator rotates as you turn, always points to true north
Bearing modeShows your current heading as a degree and cardinal direction (e.g. 045° NE)

Your preferred mode is saved between sessions.

Direction Indicator

A small triangle appears above your own avatar on the map and rotates as you move, showing which way you are currently facing.

This indicator reflects your device's heading and is visible only to you. Other group members appear as static avatar circles, their heading is not transmitted or displayed.

Tips

  • The compass HUD reads from your device's physical magnetometer. If your device doesn't have one, the indicator will not appear.
  • Metal objects and magnetic interference can affect compass accuracy, re-calibrate your device if readings seem off.
