Map Layers
Flaresat lets you change the map style and add weather overlays. Access the layer selector from the layers icon in the top-right corner of the map.
Base map styles
| Style | Best for |
|---|---|
| Standard | Default street-level map. Clear labels, roads, and landmarks. |
| Satellite | Aerial/satellite imagery. Great for terrain, vegetation, and field navigation. |
| Terrain | Topographic map with elevation shading. Ideal for hiking, trails, and search and rescue. |
Tap a style to switch — the change applies instantly.
Weather overlays
Weather overlays sit on top of the base map and update with live data. You can layer multiple weather maps simultaneously.
| Overlay | Shows |
|---|---|
| Precipitation | Current rainfall and snow intensity |
| Clouds | Cloud cover across the area |
| Wind | Wind speed and direction |
| Temperature | Surface temperature gradients |
| Pressure | Atmospheric pressure patterns |
To enable a weather overlay, tap the layers icon and toggle the overlay you want. Tap it again to turn it off.
note
Weather overlays require an internet connection to load live data. They are not available in off-grid groups.
Combining layers
You can have one base style and one or more weather overlays active at the same time. For example:
- Satellite + Precipitation → great for storm tracking in the field
- Terrain + Wind → useful for outdoor operations where wind direction matters
- Standard + Clouds → quick at-a-glance weather check
Layer preferences
Your layer selection is saved per-device. Switching groups doesn't reset your map style.
