Map Layers
Flaresat lets you change the map style and add weather overlays. Access the layer selector from the layers icon in the top-right corner of the map.
Base map styles
| Style | Best for |
|---|---|
| Standard | Dark street map with labels. Low-glare default for field use. |
| Satellite | Aerial/satellite imagery. Great for terrain, vegetation, and field navigation. |
| Terrain | Topographic map with elevation shading. Ideal for hiking, trails, and search and rescue. |
Tap a style to switch, the change applies instantly.
Weather overlays
Weather overlays sit on top of the base map and update with live data. Only one weather overlay can be active at a time, selecting a new one replaces the previous.
| Overlay | Shows |
|---|---|
| Precipitation | Current rainfall and snow intensity |
| Cloud Cover | Cloud cover across the area |
| Wind | Wind speed and direction |
| Temperature | Surface temperature gradients |
| Pressure | Atmospheric pressure patterns |
To enable a weather overlay, tap the layers icon and select the overlay you want. Tap the active overlay again to turn it off.
Weather overlays require an internet connection to load tile data. The option is available in both online and Radio groups, but weather tiles will not render without internet access.
Switching between layers
Selecting any layer replaces the current active one. To return to a plain map without weather, tap the layers icon and choose Standard, Satellite, or Terrain.
Layer preferences
Your layer selection is saved per-device. Switching groups doesn't reset your map style.
