Inviting Members
Every group has a unique invite code. Only group admins can view and share it.
Cloud groups vs off-grid groups
The invite code format depends on your group type:
| Group type | Code prefix | What the code contains |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud | FLS- | A long alphanumeric string that maps to the group on the server (32 characters total) |
| Off-grid | FLT- | The full group config (name, radio channel, sub-code, color, icon) base64-encoded into the code — length varies with the group name |
Off-grid codes work differently because there's no server to look things up — the joining device reads everything it needs directly from the code.
Find your group's invite code
- Open the group's map
- Tap Menu (☰) in the command bar, then tap Settings
- The invite code is displayed near the top of Group Settings
Share the invite code
Copy the code and send it however you like — text, WhatsApp, radio comms, word of mouth. Anyone with the code can join.
Your teammate joins by:
- Opening Flaresat
- Tapping + → Join a group
- Entering the code
- Tapping Join
Share a direct link
In Group Settings, tap Invite Link to open the native share sheet with a URL that opens Flaresat directly to the join prompt. Tap the link on a device with Flaresat installed and the app handles the rest.
Default role for new members
Anyone who joins via invite code gets the Member role by default. An admin can change their role after they've joined. See Roles & Permissions →
