Drawing Routes
A route is a line connecting multiple points on the map. Use it to mark a patrol path, a planned travel corridor, an evacuation route, or any sequence of locations your team needs to follow.
How to draw a route
Tap the Command Grid button (the grid icon on the map).
Select Draw Route.
Drawing mode activates, you'll see a toolbar appear.
Tap on the map to place your first point.
Keep tapping to add more points along your path.
- Undo, removes the last placed point
- Use Current Location, adds a point at your current GPS position
- The toolbar shows live distance as you add points
- A rubber-band preview line follows your cursor from the last placed point to your current position, showing exactly where the next segment will go before you click (web only)
When you're done, tap Finish.
A dialog appears to name and style the route:
- Label, give the route a name
- Color, pick an accent color
- Description (optional)
Tap Create.
The route appears on everyone's map immediately.
Route details panel
Tap the route line to open its details panel. The panel shows:
- Route label, color, and description
- Total distance (km or meters)
- Creator name and creation time
From the panel you can:
- Navigate, opens your maps app with the route's first point (trailhead) as the destination
- Edit, change label, color, or description; tap Save when done
- Copy Coordinates, copies the first point's lat/lng
- Share Link, copies a direct link to this route (online groups only)
- Delete, removes the route from the group
Reshaping a route
You can redraw the path of an existing route without losing its label, color, or attachments.
Tap the route to open its details panel.
Tap the pencil icon in the header to enter edit mode.
Tap the reshape button (the path icon, next to Save Changes).
Drawing mode opens, pre-loaded with the route's current path.
Redraw the path, tap to add points, Undo to remove the last one.
Tap Finish when done.
The save dialog reappears with your existing label and style already filled in, adjust if needed, then tap Save.
The updated path syncs to all group members immediately, including radio group members.
Any Member or Admin can reshape a route. Viewers cannot.
In Radio groups, routes with more than 200 points are automatically simplified before transmission to keep packet size manageable. For precision work, aim to keep paths under 200 points.
Attaching photos to a route
Members and admins can attach photos and files to any route.
Tap the route to open its details.
Tap Edit.
Tap the + tile in the attachments grid.
Take a photo or pick one from your library.
Tap Save.
All group members can view the attachments when they open the route's details panel.
Limits per route: up to 10 attachments, each no larger than 10 MB. Images are compressed automatically before upload.
Deleting a route
Tap the route line to open its details.
Tap Delete.
Confirm.
Recording a route from GPS
If you want to trace the path you're actually walking or driving in real time, use Route Recording instead. That captures your live GPS track automatically.
