Roles & Permissions

Every member of a group has one of three roles: Admin, Member, or Viewer. Roles determine what actions a person can take within that group.

Viewer

A Viewer can see everything in the group — the map, pins, routes, areas, and chat — but cannot make any changes. Use this role for stakeholders who need visibility without edit access.

Member

The default role when someone joins via invite code. Members are full participants: they can annotate the map, chat, send voice notes, and share their location. They can only edit or delete items they created themselves.

Admin

Admins have full control. They can edit any map item, manage the member list, change group settings, and control the invite code. There must always be at least one admin in a group.

The person who creates a group is automatically the first admin.

Changing someone's role

  1. Open Group Settings (gear icon)
  2. Find the member in the Members list
  3. Tap their name
  4. Select their new role: Viewer, Member, or Admin
  5. Confirm

Role changes take effect immediately.

note

You can only change roles for members who have a lower or equal role than you. Admins can change anyone's role except other admins' (unless they're the group creator).

The last admin rule

A group must always have at least one admin. If you're the only admin:

  • You cannot leave the group without first promoting another member to Admin
  • You cannot change your own role to Member or Viewer

To leave, promote someone else to Admin first, then leave.
