Notifications
Flaresat sends push notifications when new chat messages are posted in your groups. When you tap a notification, it opens the app and takes you straight to that group's chat.
Enable notifications
iOS & Android:
On first launch, Flaresat requests notification permission. Tap Allow.
If you previously denied it:
- iOS: Settings → Flaresat → Notifications → Allow Notifications
- Android: Settings → Apps → Flaresat → Notifications → Enable
Web / PWA:
Web push is supported when Flaresat is installed as a PWA:
- Open your Profile
- Enable Push notifications
- Allow the browser permission prompt
Web push works best when Flaresat is installed as a PWA. See Download & Install for how to install it.
What triggers a notification
| Event | Online group | Radio group |
|---|---|---|
| New chat message | Push notification (server-sent) | Local notification (when app is backgrounded with radio connected) |
| Geofence alert (zone entry/exit) | Push notification (server-sent) | Local notification |
| Announcements | Push notification | Push notification |
Online groups, notifications are sent from the server, so they arrive even if you haven't opened the app recently. Radio groups, notifications are generated on your device when the background radio task receives a packet while your app is backgrounded. This requires the background radio task to be running (your radio device must be connected and the app must not have been fully terminated).
Geofence alerts fire locally on your device, no internet required. See Geofencing → for setup.
Map item changes (pins, routes, areas) and member join events do not currently trigger notifications.
If notifications stop arriving
- Check that notification permission is still granted in your device settings
- On iOS, make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for Flaresat
- On Android, make sure Flaresat isn't restricted by battery optimization
Push tokens can expire if the app isn't opened for a long time. Opening the app re-registers the token automatically.
